ERARD 1838
Erard was built in 1838, serial number is: 14214, size: 235 cm/7’11’’. Wood: mahogany. This piano was sold in Paris on the 12th of December of 1838 to Mr. Forkel and Vigvier in Bordeaux. It is possibly as instrument that Chopin could have
played on. The very similar, if not identical, piano that belonged to Franc Liszt is now a part of the Chopin Museum in Warsaw. With this instrument we have a chance to experience the sounds of Chopin’s time, the palette of colors, power, selectiveness and balance of a vintage piano. The original ivory is in superb condition. All parts are original, except for new strings and pins that were changed at the Erard factory in Paris in 1922 (The last key in the treble section is marked with the date of Erard Factory restoration). The instrument possesses beautiful, noble tone and wonderful responsiveness throughout the entire range. The singing qualities together with superbly working mechanism make this piano a unique find. Concert ready and collector’s piece. In pristine condition. This piano was featured on many occasions as a solo instrument for live concerts and recordings both in the United States and Europe.
ERARD 1865
Erard – concert grand. Built in 1865, serial number: 42947, size: 253 cm/8’4’’. Rosewood. Low-tension strings. The instrument was meticulously restored in France in 2004. Its dynamic is exceptional and produces considerable power but still keeps the clarity and range of color that have become the Erard sound. Throughout the nineteenth century, Erard constantly experimented with pianos, encompassing much work on soundboard design, hammer sizes, and strike positions, and other tonal experiments that endowed his instruments with immense musical quality. With pianos in the possession of Queen Victoria, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Ravel and Faure, to name but a few, it seemed clear to affluent and musical people in Europe that Erard pianos were the most sophisticated concert grands available. This particular instrument is no exception, well preserved it offers the best what Erard piano represents with all the musical qualities, but most importantly an important piece of history that could never be undermined.
